Tom Felton, known for his role as Draco Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” series, returns to his parade role after over a decade. For 19 weeks he will be on the stage of the Lyric Theater in New York City in Broadway production “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”. The actor made the exclusive announcement on Thursday (June 5) in the US morning program “Today”.
For Tom Felton it is the Broadway debut, but also an emotional reunion with a figure that made it world famous. It will be the first time in almost 15 years that he embodies Draco again. “It feels like a moment when you have to pinch yourself,” said Felton in an interview. “I let go of the figure 16 years ago, and now I can slip back into her skin – this time as a father – in a new story.”
Comeback after over a decade
The 37-year-old is the first original member of the film series that becomes part of Broadway staging. The piece plays 19 years after the end of the original action, while Draco, Harry, Ron and Hermione send their own children to Hogwarts: “‘Potter’ was a huge part of my childhood, and now I can go back and look ahead at the same time,” Felton told “Today”.
He emphasized how special the piece feels – even though it plays in the well -known world. “The piece is a very independent story, detached from the ‘Potter’ films with which I grew up. It plays 19 years later … We are no more children. We are now the parents. As much as it is a return to an old role for me at the same time, I enter new, unknown terrain. I know it well as a child. As an adult, I hardly know him. And that is exactly the exciting challenge.”
Tom Felton on Broadway: Dates and ticket sales

The return to the world of Hogwarts did not pass Felton without a trace: “It is very, very easy to become emotional,” he said. “When they put the blonde wig for the theater production, I cried immediately. It was like a blow from the past … I never thought that I would ever experience it again.”
Enthusiasm behind the scenes
The producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender were enthusiastic: “We can hardly wait to see Tom again on stage with the same depth, heavy and humanity that he has always gave Draco on stage.”
They added: “We are aware that this is a cultural moment, full of nostalgia, change and emotion. Tom’s return to Hogwarts beats a bridge between generations of fans and breathes new life.
New life for a magical world
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is the most successful non-musical piece in the history of Broadway. Since his premiere in London in 2016, over ten million tickets have been sold worldwide. It is the fourth longest Broadway piece ever and is currently running in London, New York, Hamburg and Tokyo.
While Felton’s return inspires fans, another chapter of the “Harry Potter” universe is in the starting blocks: HBO announced a serial adaptation of the books at the beginning of the year. After tens of thousands of castings, Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout were selected as the new actor of Harry, Hermione and Ron.
