Live NH Sport: who will follow in the footsteps of Dejan Govedarica at FC Volendam?

FC Volendam will have the perfect opportunity tonight to hand the red lantern in the Premier League to FC Utrecht. The Volendam team themselves have not yet won this season, but Utrecht is in almost as bad shape in penultimate place. The relegation cracker starts at 8 p.m. and can be followed live on NH Radio.

Trainer Matthias Kohler will still have to figure out how to put together his rearguard today. Benaïssa Benamar has been suspended due to his red card against PSV, while Xavier Mbuyamba is still unavailable. It is not clear whether acquisition George Cox is ready to make his first minutes. Furthermore, there are several players who are not completely fit.

Ron Jans has been at the helm as trainer at Utrecht for a number of weeks. That Jans cannot perform magic became clear last week when his team also lost against the newly promoted Almere City FC (0-2). Nevertheless, the away section tonight with four dog fans is sold out. After last season’s riots in Volendam the mandatory bus combination applies to them.

Dejan Govedarica

The last time Volendam beat Utrecht in its own stadium was more than 25 years ago. On May 25, 1997 the score became 5-2, partly thanks to a hat trick by Dejan Govedarica. Remarkably, the Serbian doubled his goal total from three to six goals in the last match of that season.

Of the four meetings that Volendam then played at home against Utrecht, three were lost and one ended 0-0. Volendam also failed to win in Galgenwaard (two draws and three losses).

At 8 p.m., referee Serdar Gözübüyük will whistle for the kick-off of FC Volendam – FC Utrecht. Erik-Jan Brinkman provides the match commentary.

FC Emmen – Telstar

Strengthened by a draw (1-1) at ADO Den Haag and a win over Jong Ajax (3-2), Telstar travels to FC Emmen today. In particular, Quinten van den Heerik’s winning goal in the very last second caused great joy in Velsen-Zuid last Friday.

Tonight’s opponent is the current number three in the first division and has the ambition to quickly return to the highest level after relegation. Trainer Fred Grim had a turbulent start to the season, but has managed to limit the damage in terms of loss of points. FC Dordrecht gave Emmen its only defeat (2-4) in a match in which Emmen player Maikel Kieftenbeld received the red card in the eleventh minute.

Frank van der Meijden is the reporter in Southeast Drenthe, where the kick-off is at 8 p.m. NH Sport is available from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Your presenter is Robbert van den Heuvel.
