Trump announces meeting vs-Rusland for Wednesday: ‘Seeing what happens’
US President Donald Trump has announced a meeting between the United States and Russia for Wednesday. “We have a meeting with Russia tomorrow,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday (local time). “We’re going to see what happens.”
He did not say who represent the US in the meeting. On Sunday he said that he was planning to send his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to Russia halfway through the week.
Trump has imposed Russian President Vladimir Putin a deadline on Friday to reach a ceasefire in the war in Ukraine. If this does not happen before Friday, he will impose new sanctions. It would concern measures intended to tackle countries that buy Russian oil and gas.
Moscow does not seem to worry much about Trumps ultimatums. “We will continue with the special military operation,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov Tuesday. “We continue to commit ourselves to a peace process.”
