LIVE | AEX closes erratic trading day with a profit; chips on sale on Wall Street

Wall Street took a big step back on Wednesday. Chip funds went on sale. In addition, renewed tensions in the Middle East and inflation caused American stock markets to drop sharply. The Amsterdam stock exchange rose 0.5 percent to 1051.9 points after an erratic price movement earlier in the day. It was a struggle for the main index, but heavyweights Unilever, Shell and ASMI helped the AEX to a green closing position.
