The FC Volendam – Ajax match has been sold out for weeks. The derby is therefore alive in the fishing village, only there is little confidence in a good outcome. “Ajax will win.”
FC Volendam is last in the Eredivisie. Wim Jonk’s team only won once. “The expectation is that Ajax will win”, said a Volendam supporter on the dike. “Although we did not expect that 1-6.” The fan is referring to the historic defeat of Ajax against Napoli this week.
Olympic Stadium
Of course Ajax remains the big favorite for Saturday. “Volendam loses 9-0.” FC Volendam’s last victory dates from April 1994 (1-0). Arie Obdam then scored the only goal of the game. It was striking that the game did not take place in Volendam, but in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. The reason: work in the Volendam stadium.
