Doechii and Lady Gaga released “Runway” – their collaborative track – on Thursday from “The Devil Wears Prada 2”. The single will be released before the film’s theatrical release on May 1st.
“You gonna burn your tongue on this tea,” Gaga warns on the track, before Doechii announces: “Got the front row screaming, ‘Okay, okay’ / Do a little twirl / Let ’em know I’m that girl.” In keeping with the fashion-loving film, the motto runs through the song: “Monday through Sunday, I can turn the dance floor into a runway.”
The single was written by Bruno Mars, Jaylah Hickmon, Gaga, Andrew Watt, Henry Walter, Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II and Jayda Love; They produced Mars, Andrew Watt, Cirkut and D’Mile. Gaga and Mars had previously collaborated on “Die With a Smile,” a song that won them a Grammy.
Reuniting the original cast
The duo announced the track in the film’s final trailer earlier this week. The highly anticipated film reunites the original cast, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Simone Ashley, Caleb Hearon and Donatella Versace also appear in guest appearances. Gaga was spotted on set in Milan in October – a day after Donatella Versace was spotted there.
Even before the song was released, Gaga and Doechii had praised each other highly in the press. “It’s not often you see someone come out of the gate with a songwriting talent that feels instantly legendary,” Gaga told British Vogue last year. “That’s Doechii for me. I fell in love with her music – her raw, deeply personal perspective.”
Doechii described her reaction to the pop icon’s words in an interview with People. “I literally gasped out loud. I’m the biggest Lady Gaga fan in the world, and she’s so incredibly dedicated to her creativity and constantly pushing boundaries – to have a legend like her say that about me, it really, really validated me in a humble way,” Doechii said.
