Creative duo Botter resigns as creative directors of the fashion house Nina Ricci

Lisi Herrebrugh and Rushemy Botter became the new creative directors of the fashion house, which belongs to the Spanish company Puig, in 2018. At this point, the duo already had an impressive résumé, which includes winning the prestigious Hyères Prize and being nominated for the LVMH Prize. Botter’s graduation collection also brought them five Belgian fashion awards. Shortly after their appointment to Nina Ricci, the duo also competed for the International Woolmark Prize with their own brand, Botter.

With their entry at Nina Ricci, the duo aims to bring a modern, rough note to the brand that is full of femininity and tradition. Herrebrugh and Botter therefore feel “very inspired by the new, feminine and subtle values that make Nina Ricci a beautiful ode to femininity”. “We want to create a new soul, a soul that fits our times, simple yet sophisticated, strong yet positive,” the duo said at the time.

Herrebrugh and Botter achieved instant success with their first collection for the brand. The new soul of the fashion house was defined by tailored pieces and a neutral color palette, which transitioned into brightly colored a-line maxi dresses in light blue and orange, and long wool coats with a twist. One of the most striking designs was a long gray coat with the illusion of a blue swimsuit over it. The silhouette of a bathing suit featured in several articles, sometimes more prominently with blue felt than other times, where it was subtly indicated by stitching. There was also a touch of Botter in the collection, as Herrebrugh and Botter always bring their Caribbean heritage to their work. For example, a coat dyed to create the illusion of sand, the duo allude to the beach in their collections.
