Paris (AP) – After star striker Kylian Mbappé’s contract extension at Paris Saint-Germain, coach Mauricio Pochettino may also remain in Paris.
After initial speculation about the Argentinian’s departure due to a lack of success, the sports newspaper “L’Équipe” reported a new development. Mbappé, whose word now counts even more at the club than before, spoke positively about Pochettino the day before and said he had “a great relationship” with the coach.
“L’Équipe” analyzed that he sent a clear message to the club’s top management that he would like to see Pochettino continue at PSG. The question is whether PSG will want to part with a coach with whom Mbappé has “a great relationship” at the risk that the relationship with another coach is not so great.
At the same time, the club is pondering whether the failure of the season is actually solely the fault of the coach. Furthermore, by keeping ‘Poche’ the club will save an estimated €15m in compensation that would otherwise have to be paid to him. Pochettino’s contract runs until 2023.
