Florian Lipowitz is about to have a historic podium at the Tour de France – but nothing has yet been decided. He warns of third place before the last mounting stage.

“We have to stay focused, then I hope that we will bring it to the finish,” said Lipowitz of the ARD. Previously, the driver from the German racing team “Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe” had reported back to the royal stage and distanced his British pursuer Oscar Onley (Picnic Postnl) again.

“This tour is incredible for me, but tomorrow there is still a hard day with a lot up and down,” said Lipowitz and expects “many attacks”. The Ulm not only leads to onley in the overall ranking, but is also ahead in the youth classification.

Should Lipowitz defend his third place, he would be the first German since 2006 to make it onto the podium of the tour. However, Lipowitz could not remember the last German top three drivers. When asked who it was, he replied: “I guess, Jan Ullrich.” However, Andreas Klöden would have been correct, who took second place 19 years ago. “It was a while ago,” commented Lipowitz – and smiled.
