Lioness escapes in Berlin. ‘Predator already attacked wild boar’

Residents of the suburbs of Kleinmachnov, Stahnsdorf and Teltow are being urged not to leave their homes via social media and loudspeaker trucks. The animal is said to have been sighted along a road in Kleinmachnov in the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

The police began the search after eyewitnesses saw the lioness attacking a wild boar near midnight. There is also footage on social media of a motorist filming an animal resembling a lioness. The police tell Bild that there is no doubt that it is a lioness.

Daycare centers are open

No trace of the animal has yet been found. Five hunters search the search area with stun guns and veterinarians are also present. The police want to catch the predator in an “animal-friendly way”. Residents should not only stay at home themselves, but also keep their pets indoors as much as possible. Daycare centers are open as usual on Thursdays.

It is still completely unclear where the animal comes from. German media previously speculated that the lioness could have escaped from a circus, but the police are keeping all possibilities open. Agents check all zoos, circuses and animal shelters, but so far no lion has gone missing.
