Lion head and exciting underwear – the eye-catching moments of 2023

There are people who think about their outfit. And then there are celebrities who like to go one step further. Which fashion combinations were memorable this year? Twelve of the most extraordinary looks in chronological order.

January

No, no animal had to suffer for this outfit. The lion head on Kylie Jenner’s dress is a lifelike replica, conceived and designed by designer Daniel Roseberry for the haute couture collection of the French fashion house Schiaparelli. Roseberry drew inspiration from Dante’s “Inferno” – in the poem the lion represents the sin of violence. And the 26-year-old Jenner, who you know from the reality shows about the Kardashian family? At most for a huge performance in Paris.

What do swimming rings, bicycle tires and Sam Smith’s suit at the Brit Awards have in common? You can let your breath out of all of them. The 31-year-old singer owes the inflated look in the best sense of the word to the Indian fashion designer Harri, who, according to the British BBC, was thinking of his little dog: “The idea was to see me from his perspective.” So from the floor up – perspective distortions included.

Karl Lagerfeld would definitely have liked it: Jared Leto (51) dressed up as Choupette, the heiress and favorite cat of the dead fashion designer, for the Met Gala in New York. Leto asked that the costume be made as realistic as possible, reported the British newspaper The Guardian. Maybe also to get in the mood for a planned film about Lagerfeld, in which Leto wants to take part as a leading actor and producer.

So little material, so many discussions: Heidi Klum in particular was criticized for a joint underwear advertisement with her daughter Leni. In Instagram and newspaper comments it was said that as a mother she was selling her daughter, who was just 19 years old. The 50-year-old model herself said she was “proud” of the pictures on Instagram. Meanwhile, the damage to the image of the lingerie brand behind everything was limited.

Is the crown sitting crooked? This question was on the minds of many viewers in view of the official coronation photos that the British palace of King Charles (75) published. In Hugo Burnand’s pictures, the distance between the left and right eyebrows from the crown is not the same, some posts on social media said. No matter, at least the purple “Robe of Estate” flows royally over the steps.

The human Eiffel Tower – that’s what Twitter users called the singer La Zarra on stage at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool. The 36-year-old stood several meters high during her appearance for France, her black sequin dress reaching to the ground. But the monumental outfit didn’t help with the rankings: the Canadian-born woman came in 16th place.

She wore a noose around her neck: The Iranian model Mahlagha Jaberi took a stand at the Cannes Film Festival against the executions in Iran, which, according to human rights organizations, are used as a means of intimidating the population. Jaberi, 34, dedicated the performance to the people of her country and wrote on Instagram: “Stop executions in Iran.”

Pink convertible, pink dresses, pink streets: In the “Barbie” film with Margot Robbie (33) and Ryan Gosling (43) the icing color dominated. Because you could discover them everywhere before, during and after the release of the blockbuster, even off the screen, the trend for the tone called “Barbiecore” was soon considered the one of the year 2023. A fun fact: At the US paint manufacturer Rosco, which is responsible for the production of the Hollywood -Strip was supplied with pink, the color was at times in short supply – also because of the film.

Princess Diana’s outfits just never get old. Her red wool sweater decorated with sheep, which she wore shortly after announcing her engagement to Prince Charles in 1981, has now been auctioned in New York for $1.1 million (around one million euros). The auction house Sotheby’s had originally expected a maximum of 80,000 US dollars (around 73,000 euros).

September

Pamela Anderson’s appearance at Paris Fashion Week wasn’t about what she wore, but what she didn’t wear. Because the 56-year-old went without make-up. For some observers, it was a feminist liberation from beauty ideals and for fellow actress Jamie Lee Curtis, it was nothing less than the beginning of the “natural beauty revolution” – at least that’s what the 65-year-old commented on her own Instagram account.

October

Only Heidi Klum can appear twice in a list of fashion moments of the year. At her Halloween party in New York, the model greeted her guests dressed as a giant peacock. The costume included ten artists from the acrobatic circus Cirque du Soleil and husband Tom Kaulitz (34), who was dressed as an egg.

November

One would actually have expected a fashion highlight from Thomas Gottschalk (73) in his last “Wetten, dass…?” broadcast. His simple, wine-red suit paled in comparison to the red and purple glittering bodysuits of pop singer Helene Fischer (39) and rapper Shirin David (28). They sang “Breathless through the Night” together – perhaps the most surprising alliance of the year.

December

Taylor Swift is named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year”. For one of three cover photos, the 33-year-old singer put her pet, a ragdoll cat, around her neck. Certainly not the most useful neck warmer, because how many cats do something like that without extending their claws? In any case, it was fluffy. The motif by the photographer duo Inez and Vinoodh can be seen on the “Time” account on Instagram.

The whole family in dark trousers and white shirts: British Prince William, his wife Princess Kate (both 41) and their children Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (5) are in the photo for their birthday this year Christmas card a picture of down-to-earthness. This signals a “new era,” says US “Vogue,” and the message is now “normality.” As normal partner looks can be with the entire family. (dpa)
