The ski star is still in focus after the serious fall at the Olympic Games. Vonn doesn’t rule out a comeback and is now revealing her schedule.

Lindsey Vonn was seriously injured in a fall during the Olympic downhill race in Cortina d’Ampezzo in February. The 41-year-old has had to undergo multiple operations since then – and is still facing another procedure. In the fall, the metal will be removed from her leg and the cruciate ligament will be replaced.

Vonn now told the AP news agency: “Regardless of that, nothing will happen before 2027/28 because I still have an operation to do to remove the metal and replace my cruciate ligament. That still needs to be done.” She mentioned a possible time for another comeback: “Once my cruciate ligament is repaired, it will take another six months. So I have at least a year and a half to go until I’m back to 100 percent, even if I can only train in the gym.”

Vonn doesn’t want to decide at the moment whether she will return to skiing afterwards. She is not yet emotionally capable of doing so. She has not yet spoken to her doctor about returning – the focus is on recovery. “I don’t want to jump to conclusions or speculate about what I might do,” Vonn said. At the beginning of April she fueled similar rumors on US broadcaster NBS.

She now described the injury in Italy as the most serious of her career. “It’s a completely different injury, especially because of the severity and the realization that I could have lost my leg and how bad it really was,” Vonn concluded. She is still in “survival mode” and doesn’t want to take stock of her career.

The 2010 Olympic champion and 84-time World Cup winner returned to the Alpine World Cup in 2024 after a long break.
