The Olympian returned to the gates after 6 years, but finished both races outside the top 20. Many big names on the track at Copper Mountain, including Federica Brignone. Super G on Sunday

December 7 – 6.59pm – MILAN

For the big comeback he certainly couldn’t choose a banal match. Not her, the strongest sprinter ever seen on snow, who in fact returned to the gates – at 40 years of age – at Copper Mountain, Colorado, for the two FIS descents with a top-level startlist. As expected, however, the American still needs a lot of running-in: in the first descent she did not go beyond the 24th time with a delay of 1″44 from the winner Mirjam Puchner, while in race 2 she worsened her position, finishing 27th with 1″53 behind the Austrian Huetter, winner of the Downhill World Cup. Many big names on the track, including Federica Brignone: the Italian – who didn’t want to force her training – placed 14th in the first race and 7th in the second.

HUNTING FOR WILD CARD

The last time Lindsley Vonn put on skis for an official race was February 10, 2019: the last act of an amazing career, closed with a bronze in the world downhill race in Are. Then the physical pain took over and the American was no longer able to get on the track. The turning point was eight months ago, with an operation on his right knee which made the pain disappear and the desire to get back into the game immediately return. Vonn tries to lower his FIS points to 80 (before the race he was at 104.81 in the downhill and 93.02 in the Super G) to obtain the Wild Card and thus return to competing in the World Cup. An ambitious goal, which comes after months of hard work, all documented on her Instagram profile, where she is followed by almost 2 and a half million followers.
