Limp Bizkit paid tribute to their late bassist Sam Rivers on Saturday (November 29) during the band’s first concert since Rivers’ death in October.
The group, which had previously promised to continue its tour as planned following Rivers’ death, returned to the stage in Mexico City to kick off its Latin American tour.
During the performance, Limp Bizkit showed a tribute video with clips of Rivers on stage and backstage with his bandmates, who also watched along with the audience.
“Sam Rivers will always be our brother,” it said at the end of the video. “Sam Rivers, we love forever.”
Sam Rivers: Cause of death unknown
Rivers died on October 18 at the age of 48. A cause of death was not announced. For the band’s performance in Mexico City, bassist Richie “Kid Not” Buxton, who also plays in the opening band Ecca Vandal, stepped in on bass.
“Now we do this shit Limp Bizkit style. Tonight this song is for Sam Rivers,” said Fred Durst as the band struck up “Break Stuff.”
Before the concert in Mexico City, Limp Bizkit drummer John Otto remembered Instagram to Rivers: “Today will be a difficult day. A first that I never wanted to experience. Especially not now. You have been there for so many important firsts in my life. Some of my earliest memories are with you. We grew up together. Laughed together. Realized our dreams together. And traveled the world together. You were always there. My girls’ godfather, my best friend – my brother. There will never be anyone like you again.”
Otto concluded by saying, “We will remember the life you lived and the love you spread with every concert we play. You will always be with us.”
