A few days after Lil Poppa’s death, the official cause of death is known. The rapper, real name Janarious Mykel Wheeler, died on February 18th as a result of suicide. This was confirmed by the coroner’s office.
According to TMZ, the 25-year-old was involved in a car accident on Interstate 85 near Hapeville on the morning of February 18th. He then called his manager and the two arranged to meet in the parking lot of a nearby Hilton hotel. There, the rapper sat in his vehicle and spoke to her through the rolled down window. According to the local police chief, Lil Poppa pulled out a gun during the conversation, put it to his head and fired a shot. A police officer deployed on the hotel premises heard the bang, rushed to the car and immediately called the emergency number.
Rescue workers immediately took the musician to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at around 11:30 a.m.

The memorial service in Wheeler’s hometown of Jacksonville was marred by violence. As “allhiphop.com” reports, four people between the ages of 34 and 43 were injured in a shooting near the memorial event, including two women and two men. One person had to be treated in hospital, but there was no life-threatening condition. According to reports, between twelve and 15 shots were fired. Lil Poppa: life and work
Wheeler was born in Jacksonville, Florida and spent his childhood there. At an early age he developed a passion for music – especially rap. His breakthrough came in 2018 with the single “Purple Hearts,” which brought him his first national attention in the hip-hop scene.
