Bernd Nehrig has been in office as the new team manager at third division club SV Sandhausen for two days. Then it’s over again for the former BTSV captain.

From January 2019 to September 2020, Bernd Nehrig laced up his shoes for Eintracht Braunschweig. The midfielder already demonstrated his leadership skills there and was appointed captain after a short time.

When he finally ended his active playing career at his next stop, Viktoria Köln (2020-2022), it was therefore unsurprising that Nehrig remained in the football business as an official. His playing career initially transitioned seamlessly into an assistant coaching position at Viktoria Köln, and a year later he was appointed sports director.

And management should continue even after he leaves Cologne in the summer of 2024. Nehrig was hired as a team manager at third division club SV Sandhausen. Takes office: January 1, 2025.

But just two days after his first day of work, it’s over again for the 38-year-old in the Electoral Palatinate. Nehrig cited personal reasons for the quick exit, according to a statement from the club.

SVS President Jürgen Machmeier said of the decision that Nehrig made himself: “When Bernd sought the conversation, it quickly became clear that we didn’t want to put any obstacles in his way.” “We have great understanding” for the reasons presented, Machmeier continued. The contract was terminated with immediate effect. Nehrig’s tasks will initially be distributed internally.

The ex-professional thanked SV Sandhausen for their trust. “Unfortunately, personal circumstances have arisen that now have a greater priority for me. It is therefore with a heavy heart that I find myself forced to leave the Electoral Palatinate,” he said. The former midfielder’s career included stints at VfB Stuttgart, Greuther Fürth and FC St. Pauli.
