ggenerally prepared with ingredients found in the kitchenthe blends that allow you to lighten hair naturally they actually manage to bleach the lengths because they exploit certain substances that lift the cuticles by eroding the melanin. But what are they? And do they really work?
Lighten your hair naturally: what you need to know
Before trying your hand at using homemade substances that allow you to lighten your hair naturally, Marco Rizzi, hairstylist Namu Hair of Milan, suggests taking into consideration an aspect related to their use. «The final result is not controllable and it is not possible to establish with certainty the lightening point that can be achieved”.
«It must be clear that None of the next remedies is equivalent to doing a professional bleaching in the salon, where the expert manages to dose the pigments until the right shade is obtained», underlines Rizzi.
«Realistically, with DIY products, a light brunette can actually get blonde locks while a head raven manages to accomplish just a dark brown».
Furthermore, “there is no scientific evidence that the most common lightening home remedies are harmful for the stem, but it is good to be aware of the fact that they affect a precious element, the most superficial and protective layer of the hair. As a consequence we may end up with lighter but dry and brittle lengths, dull-looking”.
Chamomile is the superstar brightening ingredient
It gives a golden glow to light, dark and super-dark browns and red hair, and is an old grandmother’s remedy that always works. To obtain a slight lightening, a large cup of boiling water is filled and a sachet of chamomile is left to infuse for 10 minutes.
Once cooled, the herbal tea obtained is apply on the lengths, all over the head or strand by strand to obtain a shine that gives movement to the hair.
Let it dry and go to sleep. The next day you rinse your hair and you will notice the first golden, shiny and reflective flashes due to the richness of nourishing essential oils of this ingredient. For a more intense discoloration, the procedure is repeated until the desired result is achieved.
Lighten your hair naturally with lemon
It is a hybrid citrus fruit, derived from the cross between bitter orange and citron, and represents a universal lightening remedy. The lemon juice it should not be used on the whole hair because it could give unwanted reflections.
Its segments are used to massage thin or thick strands of hair on the sides of the face. Alternatively, you can mix two tablespoons of lemon juice in a cup of warm water and apply the liquid obtained on the strands using a small brush.
When the work is completed, the hair is left to dry in the sun: citric acid contained in citrus intensifies the chemical process that occurs during exposure (photo-oxidation) which destroy the melanin contained in the stem, causing it to fade. A very powerful combined action is carried out which greatly weakens and dries up the stem: therefore it is mandatory hydrate it using a hyaluronic acid maskfor example, after each shampoo.
Sodium bicarbonate: with caution
It has the appearance of a simple white powder with crystalline granules and odorless. Sodium bicarbonate is a alkaline element which lifts the cuticles of the stem, favoring the elimination of both natural and dyed pigments. It has one marked drying action and therefore it is not recommended in case of dry and fragile lengths.
If not mix a spoonful with your usual conditioner, it is applied to the hair and then rinsed, or to obtain a light shine the same quantity is dissolved in the water for rinsing the shampoo. AND it is always not recommended to apply it pure. And, even if they are mild remedies, caution with each method just mentionedespecially on a color that has just been done, or on weakened, fragile hair.
