Lieke Klaver takes the title at 200 meters, combative Jamile Samuel takes bronze

Lieke Klaver has won the Dutch title in the 200 meters. The 23-year-old sprinter from Enkhuizen dealt with Femke Bol and Jamile Samuel. With a time of 22.74, Klaver was only three hundredths above her personal best.

In the first hundred meters, Klaver faced fierce competition from Samuel. After coming out of the bend she pulled on and so she knocked off the pursuers. Despite the gold in the 200 meters, the 400 meters remains her favorite distance for Klaver. “I get more satisfaction from that.”

The bronze in the 200 meters went to Jamile Samuel. The 30-year-old sprinter from the Amsterdam Phanos raced to 23.24 seconds. “The first hundred meters was good, but in the last hundred meters I lacked power and technique,” says Samuel.
