Lieke Klaver runs the 200 meters at FBK Games: “Great to race close to home”

Lieke Klaver is participating in the FBK Games in Hengelo again this year. The 24-year-old athlete from Enkhuizen will compete in the 200 meters during the largest athletics competition in the Netherlands.

“It’s great to race close by for once and not have to travel so much,” says Klaver about her participation. “Friends and family can come and watch and all my training buddies participate, which really makes it a party. That, together with the Dutch athletics that are going so well at the moment, will provide a very nice atmosphere in the stadium, which will hopefully be sold out .”

Tournament director Ellen van Langen is also happy with Klaver’s arrival at the athletics event. “After her success at the world championships in Eugene last year in the 400 meters with a fourth place and her silver medal last weekend at the European Indoor Championships, Lieke Klaver will make her appearance at the 200 meters at the FBK Games. A discipline in which she also has already earned her spurs and on which she is one of the fastest Dutch women ever.”

Medals

Last weekend, Klaver won individual silver in the 400 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul. With the 4×400 relay team she captured the European title with a new Dutch record.

Klaver is the reigning Dutch champion in the 200 meters outdoor. Last year she also participated in the FBK Games. Then Klaver finished second in the 400 meters behind the Cuban Roxana Gómez. The FBK Games will take place this year on Sunday 4 June in the FBK Stadium in Hengelo.
