The traditional crown pineapple remains in the history of Lidl’s stores. This spring’s test showed that consumers prefer to buy crown -free pineapple. Lidl has now decided to take the crowned pineapple for sale in all its stores, the release states.
Lidl justifies the change by the fact that the crown pineapple is cheaper for the customer, as the customer pays only for the fruit itself, not the crown. In addition, the bulletin states that the crowned pineapple is easier to carry home because the leaves do not break the bag and the product takes less space and is lighter. The product also contains less bio -waste.
About 25 % of the transport costs and packaging materials of the crowned pineapple are saved and less water and pesticides are consumed. The crown remained on the crowns can be used as a cuttings for new pineapple plants and to improve the soil of the field. – In fact, the crown is not the best meter to tell about the maturity of the pineapple. The best pineapple is best recognized by the scent. Good pineapple is freshly scented and looking. Too weird scent tells you about over -ripe pineapple, Syrjänen advises in the release.
Crowning has no effect on the quality, shelf life or taste of pineapple.
