Liam Gallagher has revealed which classic Christmas song is his favorite. And no – it’s not “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” by John Lennon. He once defended this as the “best Christmas song of all time.”
Has he changed his mind?
On Tuesday (December 17), the Oasis singer answered some questions from fans on X. However, the answer to his favorite Christmas song came unexpectedly. When a follower wanted to know this from him – and he named “Fairytale of New York” by the Pogues as his favorite – the Gallagher brother reacted as usual briefly, without a period or comma: “Last Christmas Wham”.
So the musician with the bully image does have a soft core? Funnily enough, the piece composed by George Michael wasn’t originally intended to be a Christmas hit; it was supposedly originally called “Last Easter”. At least for the Oasis frontman’s followers, there’s no reason not to fully support their idol on X. However, one fan was surprised because the musician had actually once championed a different song: “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” by John Lennon – he even almost got into a fight for it.
He would have received a black eye for that
And with whom? With his brother Noel, of course. In 2022, he told “Radio “It even got violent at the end when he said that John Lennon’s ‘War Is Over’ was the best Christmas song of all time, and I said: It’s Slade’s ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’. The argument became so heated that people had to come inside [und sagten]: ‘Wait a minute, what are you doing? “You’re fighting over a Christmas song?”
As we all know, the Gallaghers got into fights over just about everything. For years, Liam bullied his brother as a “potato” on the Internet and at concerts. But Noel was also able to dish it out – he shot back with sentences like “Liam is a man with a fork in a world full of soup”. At least until spring 2024. That’s when Oasis announced their comeback for 2025. So maybe things will stay peaceful in the Gallagher house on Christmas Eve this time.
