Lewandowski trusts the DFB team to reach the semifinals

Robert Lewandowski has a lot of confidence in the German national soccer team at the World Cup in Qatar.

“Germany have a good mix of older and younger players. They’ve been in good form lately and can definitely make it to the semifinals. And if you’re in the semifinals, anything can happen. The German team will be dangerous,” said the Poland international an interview with the “kicker”.

The 34-year-old FC Barcelona striker also praised the national coach: “I know that Hansi Flick is a great coach, with him Germany can achieve a lot at this World Cup.” With Flick as coach, Lewandowski got the treble at FC Bayern 2020.

Lewandowski does not believe in superstar roles

Lewandowski was more cautious about the chances of the Polish selection. With Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia you have caught a difficult group. “Every game will be tough,” said Lewandowski, who expects a very physical tournament. “The players are in the rhythm. The teams will play with more risk because the gap between the first and last group game is very short.”

Poland’s captain sees his role in the national team a little differently than in the club. “I’m more involved in team play and help set up plays.” He doesn’t think he’ll be the superstar of this World Cup, “because our team doesn’t play that offensively and we don’t create as many chances to score – that’s why it’s harder for a striker.” Lewandowski has scored 76 times in 134 international matches.
