Robert Lewandowski has led FC Barcelona to a win over Real Valladolid. The Polish striker scored two goals in Camp Nou, the other goals came from Pedri and Sergi Roberto (4-0). Last week, Lewandowski had already scored twice against Real Sociedad (1-4). Barcelona had started the competition with a disappointing draw against Rayo Vallecano (0-0).
Lewandowski, who came over from Bayern Munich, tapped in a turning cross from Raphinha halfway through the first half. Pedri shot the 2-0 on the scoreboard just before half-time, on a pass from Ousmane Dembélé. In the 65th minute an action by Dembélé led to the 3-0 of Lewandowski. The striker saw his heel ball roll through the leg of a Valladolid defender into the far corner.
Frenkie de Jong, who had a base place last week as a replacement for the suspended Sergio Busquets, was allowed to play the last half hour as a substitute. Just before time, the Orange international encountered Valladolid’s goalkeeper. In stoppage time, Sergi Roberto scored the 4-0 rebound after a shot from Lewandowski hit the crossbar from the keeper’s fingertips.
Memphis Depay stayed on the bench. Jules Koundé made his debut just weeks after being bought from Sevilla for €50million by Barcelona. The Catalans only managed to create the necessary financial space this week so that Koundé could be registered for the Spanish football league.
