Levi (8) steals show with Elvis robot: “I want to be a singer and this is a great start”

Although Elvis Presley passed away 45 years ago, he joined the Beatles/Elvis Museum back to life in Alkmaar. An Elvis robot complete with glittery suit took to the stage to sing hits like Hounddog, Love me tender and Burning Love. The 8-year-old Levi Plukkel from Enkhuizen was even allowed to sing a duet with him.

He was a bit tense, but 8-year-old Elvisfan Levi had practiced well and it showed on stage. He sang with passion along with the robot Elvis Hounddog and Love me Tender. The smooth hip movements should of course not be missed.

“It was very cool,” says Levi, who calls himself the youngest Elvis fan in the Netherlands. “I once heard his music and immediately thought: wow what a beautiful voice. I have collected a lot of stuff from Elvis and my whole room is full of posters, books and records. I want to become a singer myself, so this is a nice get started.”

And he shares that love for the King of Rock and Roll with Gábor Barocsi from Hungary. Barcosi spent five years working on the robot that can sing, sign autographs and even flirt with ladies. With the robot he goes to hospitals and nursing homes to provide a fun and free performance for the people there.

Although the robot is far from finished, it is already proud of the result. But why an Elvis robot? “Yeah, why not? He died 45 years ago but he’s actually still alive. He has millions of fans all over the world, so why not robot Elvis? He’s the best, he’s The King.”

In addition to thunderous applause, Levi also gets a nice belt from Barcosi to complete his glittery costume. “It’s very beautiful and I think I’ll wear it a lot. It’s still a bit too big, maybe my mom can poke some holes or I should eat more like Elvis.”
