In Leverkusen, Wolfsburg already looks like the sure winner. But the home team turned the game around spectacularly. HSV fights for a point. Bremen loses.

Bayer Leverkusen won a completely wild Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg. On Easter Saturday, the Rhinelanders defeated Lower Saxony, who were in acute danger of relegation, 6:3 (2:3). Kasper Hjulmand’s team was already two goals behind at one point.

At the same time, Hamburger SV fought for a point in front of their home crowd when they were outnumbered. Despite Miro Muheim’s red card, the score was 1-1 (0-1) against FC Augsburg. Mainz 05 also celebrated a 2-1 away win (1-1) at TSG Hoffenheim. Bremen lost 1:2 (0:1) at home against RB Leipzig. Borussia Mönchengladbach couldn’t get past a 2-2 draw (1-1) against bottom team Heidenheim.

Bayer disappointed before the break and were behind after Wolfsburg’s goals from Jonas Wind (16th), Joakim Mæhle (31st) and captain Christian Eriksen (38th, penalty kick according to video evidence). Thanks to Alejandro Grimaldo (30th, penalty kick/44th), Leverkusen were able to continue to hope.

VfL collapsed in the second half. Patrik Schick (53rd, penalty kick), Edmond Tapsoba (68th), Ibrahim Maza (73rd) and Malik Tillman (90th + 6) led Bayer to an ultimately confident victory and took some of the pressure off coach Kasper Hjulmand. Wolfsburg, in 17th place, is still trembling about being relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time.

Arthur Chaves (23rd) scored for the guests from Augsburg. Ransford Königsdörffer (60th) equalized for HSV before Miro Muheim was shown the red card for an emergency stop (64th).

Thanks to the point win, Hamburg still has a decent lead over the relegation zone, but they are facing complicated weeks ahead. In the final six games of the season there are only two home games and a total of five duels with European Cup contenders.
