THEn a dystopian future not far away, young Stella reads disturbing news on her cell phone one morning: a referendum has been called to abolish women’s right to vote. Shocked, she immediately tells her friends Carlotta and Marco. It starts like this Let’s make some noise, the latest short by OffiCine-IEDcreated on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Republic and the recognition of the vote for women.

The three boys try to come up with an idea to shake consciences, make people understand the risk that is looming, and awaken citizens from a widespread numbness. So, what to do: walk around with a loudspeaker? Invade Milan with flyers? It doesn’t seem useful, and besides there are only three of them. Carlotta and Marco then decide to perform in a park as mimes, in a performance that turns out to be very successful: Carlotta wants to put her ballot into an urn, while Marco stops her by moving here and there. Some passersby stop, look, the message passes. And here it is in the audience Stella recognizes her former teacher Paola Zanetti (Ida Marinelli) who, as a young woman, had participated in many civil rights battles. The girl tries to involve her, her son (Andrea Bosca), also a teacher, acts as an intermediary. But the woman doesn’t seem to want to know.

Let’s make some noisethe latest short from OffiCine-IED, with the artistic direction of Silvio Soldini (our newspaper is a media partner), is a project created to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the vote for women, and to reflect together on the rights won thanks to the battles of those who came before us. But also to remind us that it is our job, and that of future generations, to protect them.

«I immediately saw myself in this girl with so much energy, who wants to put her writing at the service of the community» says Alessandra Curia, the young interpreter of Stella, who graduated three years ago from the Accademia dei Filodrammatici. “He gets angry when he sees disillusionment in the eyes of others, and he rebels.” Adds the screenwriter, Elena Beatrice: «I would like it to emerge from the short that everyone can and must find their own way to defend what they believe in. There is no right or wrong. What is clear, however, is that we need to find a way to do it together.

As the teacher said to her students, and as Stella reminds her, “those who are happy are happy because they do something for the community. You don’t go anywhere alone“”. For Silvio Soldini, “the idea for the short came from the OffiCine-IED guys themselves, who are all selected and very motivated. Our task is to advise without prevaricating, but above all to try to see how their creativity materializes”.

In this case (and also in many other OffiCine-IED works) the creativity had a good outcome: the short is graceful, the mime dance a delightthe moment in which the teacher, at home, tries to put the pieces of a cup of tea back together is one of the most intense. Ida Marinelli herself, the famous theater actress who plays Paola Zanetti, was very impressed: «My character is a disillusioned woman who has closed in on herself and when she meets Stella by chance she pretends not to recognize her. While her son, worried about his health, confides that, of course, he knew very well who he was. But it’s too late for her, she has already fought her battles and now it’s the young people’s turn. Then, by chance, Paola breaks the tea cup. That will be the turning point. The moment to make noise». © ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
