Defense endorses all conclusions and recommendations from the Den Oudsten Committee report on the mortar accident in Mali in 2016. The report enables Defense to learn and improve. The ministry has already made many changes since the accident and will continue to do so. Minister Ruben Brekelmans reported this today in an extensive policy response to the House of Representatives.

In the extensive response to the report, Brekelmans again expresses his condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the killed and injured soldiers. According to him, the accident should never have happened. “We are learning from what went wrong and are extremely motivated to ensure that safety for our soldiers and employees is better guaranteed now and in the future.”
