Lessmann and Schulze as the best Germans in the final

German BMX freestyler Lara Lessmann started the competition with a solid performance at the European Championships, qualifying for Friday’s final.

The 22-year-old took third place in Thursday’s qualification in Munich’s Olympiapark with 73.40 points.

“More is definitely possible,” said Lessmann after the competition: “The wind picked up in the afternoon, I think the weather conditions will be better for tomorrow and I’ll be able to show more there.”

The other two German starters also made it into the final. The second best German was Kim Lea Müller in fifth place, Rebbeca Gruhn took eighth place.

The British Olympic champion Charlotte Worthington (82.30) received the top rating from the jury in the skate park on the Olympiaberg.

Schulze as the best German in eighth place

In the men’s qualification, Timo Schulze showed two constant runs and entered the final as the best German in eighth place with 71.20 points – just ahead of Paul Thölen, who was ninth with 70.70 points and also qualified for the final of the twelve best Freestylers qualified on Saturday night.

The third German starter, Michael Meisel, missed this clearly in 15th place with 58.20 points. By far the best driver was Frenchman Anthony Jeanjean (88.10) – more than five points ahead of his closest pursuer, Brit Shaun Gornall (82.80).
