There will be no shortage of tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms and strawberries this year in the Roeselare REO Auction. The supply of leek, on the other hand, has fallen by 5% compared to last year, to just under 44,000 tons. However, leek is traditionally a vegetable that does well at the auction.

“2024 is the wettest year since measurements started, and this has consequences for the supply of fruit and vegetables. The fact that we have had fewer leeks, an open field vegetable, is related to this,” explains Filip Vanaken of the REO Veiling.

The amount of greenhouse lettuce also decreased significantly, but there are also vegetables that score unexpectedly well. For example, more than 15,000 tons of chicory arrived at the auction.
