Those who insult the king or members of the royal house no longer risk a prison sentence. After all, the new criminal code of Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne (Open VLD) no longer includes lese majeste in its current form. However, that is not a safe conduct to insult the king gratuitously. The monarch is given the same protection against libel as any other person.
