Leonie ter Braak has yet to make her debut as the new presenter of the failed RTL Tonight, but the main presenter Renze Klamer has already left. Is she happy with that or not?

What a mess on late evening RTL 4: TV boss Peter van der Vorst has created a monstrosity of a talk show there and everyone keeps flogging that dead horse. Renze Klamer is apparently the only professional enough to see that this is not going to work and has resigned. B-choices Beau van Erven Dorens and Humberto Tan remain.

Extra pressure

Well, and Leonie ter Braak then. She has yet to make her debut with the program, and would initially do so during the weekend edition. But now that Renze has left, Leonie will take on a more prominent role much sooner than expected. Does that make her happy about her colleague’s departure?

TV critic Victor Vlam says in the podcast Victor Indicates TV: “I suspect that she will now also be deployed on the weekday edition of the program. Yes, that is a lot of extra pressure for her, because she is now seen in the image as Renze’s replacement and that also means that she will be compared to him a lot.”

‘Not happy with it’

That comparison will be killing for Leonie, he thinks. “Even if she does quite well, people might still say, ‘Yes, but she’s not as good as Renze.’ That is of course annoying for her.”

“It simply makes it more difficult for her to really make a success of it, so I can’t imagine that she is happy with this development. In fact, I don’t think she is happy with it at all.”

Didn’t leave

By the way, Victor does not believe in Johan Derksen’s conspiracy theory that Renze is resigning because he will get his own talk show again after the New Year. The reason being that he will not suffer any image damage from RTL Tonight for the time being.

Victor: “Renze would not have left if he had the idea that RTL would bring back the old talk shows in January, because then you don’t leave on high legs. These kinds of things are not good for your relationship with your employer, so if the old talk shows probably return in January, Renze would have simply waited it out until Christmas.”
