In an unusual escape that occurred on Saturday afternoon in Ladispolion the Roman coast, a lion evaded surveillance of the local circus, alarming the community. The situation was resolved in the evening, when the fugitive was captured and brought back to the circus where it came from. In a video published on Facebook, one of the circus artists reassures the public: the Leo is fine, and returned home with his kind. “We are waiting for you to see our beautiful show where there will also be our famous lion, who has now become a web star”, concluded the circus artist.
The lion escaped to Ladispoli

It all started when the mayor Alexander Grando launched a warning through social media, asking citizens to avoid travel following the escape of a lion in Ladispoli. Numerous people documented the unusual event, recording videos from their homes or cars while the feline roamed the streets of the Lazio town. To handle the situation, it was established a command logistics center, with the involvement of the police and firefighters who coordinated to capture the lion. Initially, the arrival of veterinarians was planned with anesthetic bullets to put the animal to sleep and facilitate recovery.
But then night came to complicate things further, and the firefighters had to intervene with floodlights. The work of a state police helicopter, equipped with infrared viewer, to fly over the area. To further facilitate operations, it was temporarily a section of the Via Aurelia closedfrom km 38 to km 42. The lion was finally captured and made safe in the last few hours.

Investigations are currently underway to clarify the situation. The police are carefully examining whether the cage in which the animal was locked up has been opened intentionally by a third party. The Civitavecchia Prosecutor’s Office could start an investigation after receiving information from the police and carabinieri, thus investigating what happened.
