Leon Goretzka justifies “boring” style

Two games, two wins: FC Bayern satisfactorily performed their duties at the start of the Bundesliga against Werder Bremen (4-0) and FC Augsburg (3-1). Midfield star Leon Goretzka explained that the spectacle fell by the wayside against the Fuggerstadt team with the opponent’s style of play.

FC Bayern did not shine early on Sunday evening, but an own goal from Felix Uduokhai and a brace from the new star striker Harry Kane were enough for the Munich team to secure a home win in the end.

Coach Thomas Tuchel’s team was only able to break the spell after 32 minutes of play, before both teams delivered an extremely tough kick.

For Bayern driver Leon Goretzka, the initial phase did not come as a complete surprise. The 28-year-old, who offered a solid performance and the sport.de-Grade 3.0, referred to the unusual style of Augsburg.

“We knew it wouldn’t be a nice football game today,” admitted Goretzka on the “DAZN” microphone. The FCA act “disgusting and unorthodox in the game structure”, which he and his teammates were prepared for.

The Germany international added: “We didn’t want to do them a favor by running at the goalkeeper. That’s what they were waiting for.”

Goretzka: FC Bayern performance “probably boring” for fans

What followed was a game of patience without any highlights worth mentioning, which the fans in the Allianz Arena evidently didn’t enjoy very much.

“It got a bit tough, you could tell that in the stadium too. It probably got boring for the spectators,” Goretzka showed understanding for the intermittent lethargy in the stands.

Ultimately, however, FC Bayern’s plan worked. “We stayed patient and waited for our goal,” emphasized Goretzka. After the opening goal, it became a different game.
