Lenzing puts the world’s largest lyocell fiber factory into operation

The Austrian fiber manufacturer Lenzing AG has successfully completed one of its most important investment projects: In Prachinburi, Thailand, the company put its new factory for lyocell fibers into operation. “The new production facility, which is the largest of its kind in the world with a nominal capacity of 100,000 tons per year, has started production as planned and is helping to better serve the growing demand from customers for Tencel-branded lyocell fibers,” said Lenzing Thursday with.

The plant was “built on time and within the specified budget after two and a half years of construction, despite the challenges caused by the pandemic,” the company explained. According to its own statements, the group invested around 400 million euros in the project.

The new plant is intended to help advance the strategic focus on specialty fibers and achieve sustainability goals. With the commissioning, Lenzing has now taken “an important step towards strengthening its leading position in the specialty fiber market and on the way to a CO2-free future,” according to a press release.
