Leipzig company wants to make freight transport more environmentally friendly

LEIPZIG (dpa-AFX) – With a new loading technology, the Leipzig-based company CargoBeamer wants to make freight transport within Europe more efficient and environmentally friendly. In order to be able to load a trailer from a truck onto a train more easily and quickly, the company has developed a special terminal. This should solve the problem that currently almost all truck trailers cannot be lifted with a crane and therefore have to cover long distances on the road, said the chairman of CargoBeamer, Nicolas Albrecht, during a visit by Leipzig’s mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD). on Monday with

The technology can reduce traffic jams on motorways, save costs and enable more environmentally friendly transport, as Albrecht said. The individual trailers would be pushed onto the train wagon using a so-called loading trough. So far, such a terminal is only in use in Calais in northern France. “Actually, we wanted to build our first terminal in Germany, more precisely in Kaldenkirchen near Gladbach, but we’re stuck in the planning process,” said Albrecht. However, the chairman sees a great opportunity for his company in the coming years: “We want to become the market leader.”

That’s why CargoBeamer is also working on setting up a network and developing its technology further. Only last week did the company complete its first two wagons in Erfurt.

The privately financed company was founded in Bautzen in 2003. It has been based in Leipzig since 2010 and, according to the information, now has a total of 100 employees, including in Frankfurt am Main./ija/DP/zb
