The Leine-Center shopping center in the city of Laatzen, south of Hanover, is facing extensive renovation and renovation measures. The aim is to “strengthen the local supply character”, announced the operating company Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Germany on Thursday. The renovation work should therefore “begin in the second quarter of 2023 and will probably be completed by the end of 2024,” said the company. As part of the project, the previous retail space will be converted into a new multi-storey car park.

With these measures, the Leine Center, which was opened in 1973 and has since been expanded, will be made “fit for the future”, emphasized Christian Zimmermann, Director of Asset Management at URW in Germany. In addition, according to the operating company, a new anchor tenant was won in the discounter Aldi Nord. The range of the planned Aldi branch, whose opening is planned for the beginning of 2025, will include a high proportion of regional and sustainable food, said URW.

Real estate company CBRE Investment Management owns the center, in which well-known textile and shoe providers such as C&A, H&M, Gerry Weber, Deichmann and Foot Locker are represented with their own stores. Tim Mayer, Head of Asset Management Retail at CBRE, explained the goals of the measures that have now been announced: “With the renovation, the Leine Center is developing into a central local supply center on the southern outskirts of Hanover. In addition, Aldi Nord’s new retail concept further enhances the location, ”he explained in a press release. “The project fits into our transformation program in the retail portfolio, which we initiated around two years ago.”
