Only a few people in the world are allowed to hold the FIFA World Cup trophy in their hands – but at least you can get your hands on Lego’s true-to-original, 1:1 scale replica. And although they are rivals for the title in real life, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Cristiano Ronaldo and Vinícius Júnior sit at the table together in a Lego commercial released on Thursday – and fight for the stone version of the cup.
The Lego World Cup trophy, released in March, costs $200 and consists of 2,842 pieces. As a continuation, there are now playsets and minifigures inspired by Messi, Mbappé, Ronaldo and Vini Jr. – the representatives of Argentina, France, Portugal and Brazil.
In the spot, the football rivals sit at a turntable and compete to place their own minifigure on the Lego World Cup trophy – until a little boy quickly claims it for himself. In addition to the cup and upcoming sets, Lego has also released a 1,498-piece soccer ball that hides a replica of a playing field.
Lego Editions at a glance
Each minifigure will be part of a collection called Lego Editions, which, according to the Danish toymaker, “captures a cinematic snapshot of each player.” The smallest product line is called “Football Highlights”; The sets contain around 500 pieces and are inspired by key moments from each player’s career.
Ronaldo and Messi will also receive a more elaborate “Football Legend” set that shows the players celebrating their signature goal. There is also a “Celebration” set with 1,427 pieces for Messi. The sets are available to pre-order now and will be released on May 1st; the Messi Celebration set follows on June 1st. The Ronaldo and Vini Jr. sets are also coming May 1st, but are not yet available for pre-order.
