Leeds United appoint Marsch as new manager: ‘The style of football is in line with the club’

After separation from Bielsa

A day after splitting up with Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds United have unveiled Jesse Marsch as their new manager. The ex-Leipziger signed a contract with the Whites until the summer of 2025. The 48-year-old was released at the beginning of December after just 20 games on the sidelines of the “Red Bulls” and a point average of 1.25. In Leeds, the mission of staying up awaits the first American coach in Premier League history. After the 27th match day, the club is in 16th place with a two-point lead over the first relegation zone.

“We are delighted to welcome Jesse to the club and look forward to seeing how he will lead us into this new chapter. Jesse is someone we met a few years ago when he was at Red Bull Salzburg and we believe his philosophy and style of football will be in line with that of the club and will suit the players very well. We have a long-term plan and we truly believe he can take Leeds United to the next level and we look forward to the future,” said sporting director Victor Orta of the new boss, who will make his debut at Leicester City on Saturday.

As already suggested in Orta’s words, Marsch’s offensive style of play was the decisive factor in his commitment. While Leeds have not yet significantly manifested their standing as a goal factory in the current season, this is not the first time that they have made people sit up and take notice. With 62 Premier League goals, the promoted team at the time shared sixth place in the league comparison after the 2020/21 season. Only 29 hits have been recorded so far.
