Charles Leclerc secured the best time in the second free practice session. He and his teammate Carlos Sainz set the pace – Vettel improved.

Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz keep the pressure on world champion Max Verstappen high at the start of the Formula 1 weekend in Hungary. After the Spaniard Sainz had set the best time in the first free practice session, Leclerc (Monaco) was unstoppable in the second session on Friday afternoon. With a time of 1:18.445 minutes, the 24-year-old turned the fastest lap.

For the Dutchman Verstappen in the Red Bull, it was only enough for fourth place, his gap to Leclerc was almost three tenths of a second. Sainz finished third in the second practice behind the again strong Brit Lando Norris in the McLaren.

Weather warning before third training session

Sebastian Vettel (Heppenheim), who surprised on Thursday with the announcement of the end of his career after the season, improved and finished seventh in the Aston Martin. Mick Schumacher (Haas) had to settle for 17th place.

Mercedes didn’t get going at all. The Silver Arrow pilots George Russell (eighth) and record world champion Lewis Hamilton (eleventh/both Great Britain) did not keep up with the leaders.

The Formula 1 drivers are expected to expect completely different conditions on Saturday. The weather forecast predicts rain and lower temperatures for the third practice session (2 p.m.) and qualifying (5 p.m.). The balance of power could shift significantly as a result.
