Charles Leclerc lost the lead during the Grand Prix of France on Sunday. The Monegask had just beaten off a prolonged attack by Max Verstappen when he lost control of his Ferrari in Turn 11 and blew into the tire stacks.

Verstappen had already made a pit stop at that point, while Leclerc continued for a few more laps. In turn 11 the rear broke out and his Ferrari spun off the track.

The Monegask screamed out loud in frustration, but was able to get out unharmed. He complained that his accelerator pedal was sticking, a problem that also plagued Leclerc in Austria.

Verstappen took the lead, as many drivers took advantage of the safety car situation to make a pit stop. Lewis Hamilton ended up in second place and Sergio Pérez in third position.

Leclerc was already 38 points behind World Cup leader Verstappen. The crash gives his chances in the title fight a new blow.

The next Grand Prix is in a week in Budapest, where Formula 1 will visit the Hungaroring.
