During the Miami Sprint the Ferrari driver complained about the Italian over the radio: “He moves when braking, we’ll end up colliding.” At the end of the race the reverse gear: “I was a bit too hard, but you know, the adrenaline in the car… And then I appreciate Kimi as a person”

First the anger, then the apologies. The Miami Sprint Race was the scene of an intense battle between the Ferrari of Leclerc, third, and Kimi Antonelli, sixth and penalized for not respecting track limits. A challenge that Leclerc didn’t particularly appreciate, to the point of venting over the radio towards his Mercedes colleague: “Kimi is really bad at wheel-to-wheel duels. We keep moving when braking… we’ll end up colliding!”.

the vent

In fact, the two almost came into contact, with Antonelli determined to regain his position from Leclerc, who had overtaken him at the start. And then Charles blurted out on the radio, annoyed by Kimi’s repeated braking movements, later penalized for violating track limits. The duel then cooled down in the second half of the Sprint, when the Ferrari driver gained a good safety margin over the Italian’s Mercedes, who in the meantime had come under attack from his teammate Russell.

apologies

And although it is not the first time that Leclerc accuses the Bolognese of improper behavior on the track (it already happened last year in Brazil, when a contact with Piastri, caused by Antonelli, cost the Monegasque the podium), Charles then apologized for his words over the radio. “The radio team on Kimi? I think I was a bit too harsh, but you know how adrenaline works in the car”, he explained to Sky. “It’s true, there have been some episodes with him and I hope that things will improve in the future, especially considering that he is the only Italian on the track and I drive a Ferrari. I would prefer certain things to happen with other drivers, also because I really appreciate Kimi as a person. It’s just that sometimes he’s a little too close to the limit when it’s not necessary and, in this case, I got very angry. Although yes, my comment was probably a little too harsh.”
