KSC got off to a strong start, but HSV took the lead

The KSC put down a strong initial phase. Above all, attacker Fabian Schleusener presented Hamburg with problems, only HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes stopped him several times.

At the end of the first half, HSV took a somewhat fortunate lead at the break. Reis scored from a distance to make it 1-0 (43rd).

Penalty for HSV withdrawn shortly before the end

Karlsruhe remained dangerous after the change, but did not reward themselves for the strong performance. Marvin Wanitzek shot from a tight angle on the short corner, but Heuer Fernandes deflected the ball onto the post (57′). Then HSV became more dominant again.

Reis almost made it 2-0 for HSV, but shot just wide of the right post (70′). HSV came even closer in the 87th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. But referee Tobias Reichel reversed the decision, there was at most minimal contact between Karlsruhe’s Paul Nebel and Hamburg’s Laszlo Bénes – it remained 1-0.
