The English top club Liverpool FC have moved into the semi-finals of the League Cup after a chase and a penalty thriller.
Team manager Jürgen Klopp’s team won in the round of the last eight against Leicester City 5-4 on penalties, after 90 minutes it was 3-3, at break it was 1-3. Chelsea FC with coach Thomas Tuchel prevailed 2-0 (0-0) at Brentford FC.
Diogo Jota converted the decisive penalty for Liverpool, while substitute goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher saved two shots. Previously, Takumi Minamino had equalized for the Klopp-Elf in the fifth minute of stoppage time, the other goals were scored by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (33rd) and Jota (68th). Jamie Vardy (9th / 13th) and James Maddison (33rd) were successful for Leicester.
Due to the tight schedule around Christmas, Klopp spared many of his top stars. Among other things, Mohamed Salah was not in the squad. Defense chief Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Curtis Jones dropped out because of a corona infection. Leicester, however, offered its top performers.
Chelsea FC wins without Werner and Havertz
Chelsea had to wait a long time in the city duel at Premier League promoted Brentford FC. Pontus Jansson (80th / own goal) and Jorginho with a penalty kick (85th) made the decision late.
