Leaders Napoli back on track

Table leaders SSC Napoli have found their way back into the Italian Serie A and won 2-0 (1-0) at relegation candidate Sampdoria Genoa four days after the first defeat of the season.

Victor Osimhen (19′) and Eljif Elmas (82′, penalty) made sure that a missed penalty by Napoli’s Matteo Politano (6′) didn’t matter in the end.

At Genoa, former HSV professional Tomas Rincon saw the red card in the 39th minute after a serious foul. As a result of the defeat, the four-time Italian Cup winner could slip to the bottom of the table during the course of the day.

AC Milan suffered a late 2-2 (1-0) draw against AS Roma in the evening and thus lost their status as Naples’ first pursuer. The champions took the lead through goals from Pierre Kalulu (30′) and Tommaso Pobega (77′), Roger Ibanez (87′) and Tammy Abraham (90’+3′) equalized for Roma. New second in the table ahead of the “Rossoneri” is record champion Juventus Turin (both 37 points) due to the better goal difference.

Both games were preceded by a minute’s silence for the late Italian football legends Gianluca Vialli and Ernesto Castano.
