Lazio transfer market, Artur of Palmeiras in the sights and Savio now in Girona

The team is struggling to score at the moment and so the Biancoceleste talent room draws up the list of potential targets. But not only that, a left back is also in the notebook

Market always active, market always open. Over the years, Lazio president Claudio Lotito has reiterated this several times and, in recent months, has set up a talent room to identify, possibly before the competition, players useful for raising the team’s level. With Lazio struggling to score at the moment (just 13 goals scored in the first 12 of the championship, they haven’t done worse since 2009-10), the attackers are being kept under close scrutiny. Two in particular, which could become fashionable in the next market sessions.

THE NAMES

The first player to end up on the Formello managers’ notebook is Artur, a striker born in 1998 owned by Palmeiras. Fast and technical, he knows how to play both as a winger (right and left) and as an attacking midfielder. In reality he has also played as a striker in his career, but he is not exactly a goalscorer. There are just 13 goals scored in the 55 games played in the last season with Palmeiras: he initiates the action, creates havoc in the opposing defense, is fundamental, but not a finisher. Not particularly tall (168 centimetres), he evidently brings more imagination than physicality. But he is someone who raises the pace of the action. He has a similar profile to Savio, a 19-year-old Brazilian owned by Troyes but on loan to Girona. This season he has scored 4 goals and provided 4 assists in 13 games played in La Liga. If Girona is surprisingly at the top of the table, it is also thanks to him. Quick and technical, he doesn’t have great physical skills either (176 centimeters tall). A sign that Lazio are evidently also thinking about how to raise the pace of their actions from the attacking midfield upwards, looking for players who can challenge their opponents one-on-one and target the area. Characteristics that the wingers currently available to Sarri, by his own admission, lack.

THE LATEST IDEA

Lokomotiv Moscow left-back Nair Tiknizyan is also being monitored. He is 24 years old, and Lazio, having to evaluate the situation of Marusic, Lazzari and Hysaj at the end of the season, is already looking around. The Armenian has great ability to run, and is attentive in both phases: despite being born as an attacking winger, in fact, over the years he has improved a lot in the defensive phase. For now he is just a name. But the market, as president Lotito likes to say, is open 365 days a year…
