The North Atlantic Alliance “to the death” stands on its position of defending the open door policy, ignoring even the provisions of fundamental documents, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at an extraordinary meeting of the Russian Security Council. Broadcast leads RBC.

“They are [члены НАТО]so to speak, are standing to death on the inadmissibility of any weakening of this very open door policy, ”said Lavrov.

At the same time, Lavrov noted, such a policy does not exist, but there is a possibility provided for in the Washington Treaty: with the consent of all NATO members, to offer a country to join the alliance under two conditions: if it meets the membership criteria, and secondly, most importantly, “if it will add to the security of the North Atlantic Alliance.” He added that the second, “most important” principle is being ignored by the bloc.
