Lauri Holappa, director of the Center for New Economic Thinking, noticed something special on the way to lunch. A closer investigation revealed that it was the biggest catch of a theft that made headlines.

The stolen uniforms of the basketball club Helsinki Seagulls have been found.

The equipment was found on Friday in a sandbox on the border of Kampi and Töölö. The Seagulls’ home arena is about one and a half kilometers from the discovery site.

Playsuits found Lauri Holappa. The doctor of political science and executive director of the Center for New Economic Thinking noticed the uniforms by chance on Friday, when he was heading to lunch from the office.

– I noticed that Seagulls jerseys are clearly visible from the sandbox opposite the office. I recognized them because my own son plays basketball, and of course I had read about the theft in the news, says Holappa.

The first observation turned out to be correct.

– A whole bunch of outfits had been dumped in the box. There were jerseys, shorts and warm-up outfits. It was pretty obvious that they were exactly the clothes stolen from the club, that’s how large men’s outfits they were, Holappa laughs.

The finder got to keep it

Holappa immediately contacted the Seagulls office after the discovery.

– For a while, we thought about what to do now. The season is already over, and the team will change anyway for next season. When the club stated that they no longer had a use for the equipment, I asked if I could have the items I found for myself. They had nothing against it, says Holappa.

Three jerseys were found.

– When my son plays the sport, he liked it a lot. They will probably be put on the wall.

Holappak is thinking about taking the training shirt for his own use.

“Not a criminal genius”

Seagulls announced in April the long-clawed “suitcase that contained away game uniforms and other valuable equipment for the team.”

The other contents of the bag have not been reported. Holappa therefore made a discovery of the game uniforms, so the fate of the other equipment in the bag is still a mystery.

– There was hardly any great criminal genius in this case. He must have taken a bigger set, but realized that this equipment is not of great value, Holappa reflects.

But maybe something has moved in Voro’s head.

– I noticed that the shirts of the Seagulls’ biggest star players were not found in the sandbox.
