Cheers at Münster

As of: November 30, 2025 10:16 p.m

Preußen Münster is celebrating – the end of its away misery and an important victory in the derby at Arminia Bielefeld.

Preußen Münster hasn’t had a good phase recently: the Adlerträger have only won one of their last six second division duels. Therefore, coach Alexander Ende’s goal was clear: to forget the bad record of the last few weeks with a win in the derby against Bielefeld. And the plan worked. Thanks to an own goal shortly before the end, the Adlerträger celebrated a somewhat fortunate 2-1 win on the Alm on Sunday.

Substitute keeper Behrens takes a penalty

In Bielefeld the Prussians had to do without their regular goalkeeper Johannes Schenk. Morten Behrens stood between the posts for the suspended keeper – and he had an extremely unfortunate start to the game. Because when Bielefeld’s captain Mael Corboz went for a header after a corner, Behrens hit him in the head with his fist. After a short video study, the referee pointed to the spot. Former Münster player Joel Grodowski didn’t miss the chance and safely converted to give Bielefeld an early lead (8th).

After ten minutes, the guests also gave their first offensive sign of life. But Oscar Vilhelmsson’s long-range shot whizzed just wide of the goal. Shortly afterwards it was a real derby in terms of atmosphere, as the fans ended their boycott promptly after twelve minutes. However, the Münster team set off so much pyrotechnics that the referee briefly interrupted the game.

Münster equalizer out of nowhere

Oliver Batista Meier Münster scores the goal to make it 1:1

The Bielefeld team then pushed for the second goal. They threw themselves into every duel and hardly gave the guests any time to build up the game. But Arminen’s carelessness brought Münster back into the game. After a far too short back pass from Marius Wörl, Oliver Batista Meier grabbed the ball. He went around the storming keeper Jonas Kersken and easily pushed the ball into the empty goal to make it 1-1.

While the Arminen had the game clearly under control until then, they now seemed completely unsettled. Münster, on the other hand, was suddenly in the game and had their next big chance less than two minutes after the equalizer. Vilhelmsson tried to overcome Kersken with his heel, but the keeper reacted quickly and cleared for a corner. And that too became dangerous. Kersken only prevented Münster’s double strike with a brilliant save.

It was now a real derby fight, as Bielefeld had also recovered from the shock of conceding a goal after around 37 minutes. Instead of more goals, the spectators mainly saw duels: we went into the break with an impressive 22 fouls and a fair draw.

Grodowski out injured

Grodowski never returned to the field. The striker injured his shoulder in a duel. But even without their best goalscorer, Bielefeld were now more concerned about controlling the game – but overall the game was much quieter than in the first half.

It was only after almost an hour that Monju Momuluh made the Arminia fans sit up and take notice again. He left several opponents standing and took off. His shot was deflected into a corner by Jannis Heuer. In the 65th minute, Batista Meier almost benefited again from a Bielefeld misunderstanding. This time, however, Kersken was able to direct his shot from around 20 meters around the post with his fingertips.

Late own goal decides game

For the rest of the game, both teams focused primarily on avoiding mistakes. Offensive actions were rare. When everyone had already prepared for a draw, it still fell: the lucky punch for Münster. And of all things thanks to a Bielefeld own goal. In a duel with Lars Lokotsch, Leon Schneider unfortunately maneuvered the ball over his own line. His attempted rescue with an overhead kick came too late.

A few minutes later it was over. With the 2-1 win, the Prussians ended their four-game series of defeats on foreign grounds. For Arminia it was the second bankruptcy in a row. Particularly bitter: the home team played a significant role in the two Münster goals.

Another NRW duel for Bielefeld

The Arminen have the next chance for a threesome next Saturday. At 1 p.m. they will face VfL Bochum in another NRW duel. The Münster team is challenged a day earlier: they will welcome promotion hopefuls Hannover 96 on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
