Last kick-off for neighborhood football club The Haarlem Boys

They feel victimized by corona and the energy crisis. Football club The Haarlem Boys has seen one team after another die in recent years due to a lack of football players. In the winter break, the second was already taken out of the competition. The first played its last game in the fifth division this weekend. Much to the regret of veterans Sjaak van Gennip and Cor Jonen. Still associated with the club, they were allowed to take the final kick-off.

“It was my life”, Sjaak sighs when he leaves the field after kick-off. As manager and caretaker of the fields, this end of the neighborhood football club from the Leidsebuurt is the hardest for him. Everyone on the sidelines agrees on that.

The football players of the first have only one mission: to win. “We are going to give everything,” says number 14 Alex Rasker. “It is important for Sjaak, our club hero, to be able to close it nicely.”

Watch the report here to see if The Haarlem Boys manage to give club hero Sjaak van Gennip that farewell present.
