Hertha hosted Dresden on Saturday. The police had previously assumed that there was a high potential for conflict between the fan camps. In retrospect there was talk of a quiet operation. Criticism of the officials comes from fan support.
According to the police, there were 30 arrests around the high-risk game between Hertha BSC and Dynamo Dresden. The reasons were primarily physical attacks, resistance to law enforcement officers and physical injuries, the police said.
According to the police, there were no clashes between fans of either team around the Berlin Olympic Stadium after the game in the 2nd Bundesliga. “Everything was quiet,” said a spokeswoman late in the afternoon after the hosts’ 2-0 win. “There were no more incidents after the game.” It was peaceful when the fans left.
The police’s concept included guiding the Hertha fans in completely different ways than the Dynamo supporters. Ideally, they shouldn’t meet at all. “That worked well,” said the police spokeswoman.

Short brawl before the game – criticism of the police
Before the start of the second division game, fans of the two teams sought confrontation in the stadium. Videos on social media show dozens of fans running towards each other near the visitors’ block and a brief brawl breaking out.
But the police quickly intervened and separated both sides, an rbb reporter observed. As the officials confirmed when asked by rbb|24, pepper spray was also used. There were no arrests and the situation quickly calmed down again.
Clear criticism of the police operation on Saturday afternoon came from Fanhilfe Hertha BSC, a solidarity community of ultra groups from the Ostkurve. We are talking about provocations and harassment by the emergency services when entering the stadium. “It was only through the intervention of fan support that the emergency services could ultimately be stopped,” the association said in a statement. Fan Aid also showed little understanding for the massive police presence in front of and in the Olympic Stadium. “An unprecedented contingent, including water cannons and isolation barriers, was deployed at the guest entrance.”
Police classified game as High risk game a
The police assumed there was a high potential for conflict in the second division encounter, as they had announced in advance in response to an rbb|24 request. The decisive factors for this are the rivalry between the respective fan scenes as well as the “Damage to property due to paint smearing from 16/17. October 2025 at the Hertha BSC office”.
The Berlin police also received support from other federal states such as Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Baden-Württemberg, said a spokeswoman in the run-up to the game.

Union also in action on Saturday
A special feature: Later in the afternoon, 1. FC Union Berlin met SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga at the Alten Försterei stadium. The game ended 0-0Afterwards, things remained peaceful here too, the police told rbb in the evening. Normally, the German Football League does not schedule home games for capital city clubs on the same day.
But since, for example, in North Rhine-Westphalia it is not allowed to play on All Saints’ Day, an exception was made for logistical reasons. In total, more than 1,000 police officers were deployed around the games in Berlin this Saturday.
